With the early arrival of heat this year, you have more than likely turned on your air conditioning already. You may have been disappointed to find that your old system isn’t working like it used to. If repair can’t fix it, you may be in need of Phoenix air conditioning installation services. Buying a new system is a big investment, and should be considered with care. Doing research and consulting a specialist are recommended. If you have already begun research into air conditioning systems, you may be considering things such as brand and price, but there are other, very factors things to consider in your quest for a new AC system as well.

Size/Cooling Capacity

Did you know that air conditioners come in different sizes, and that depending on the size of your home, the size of the system that is appropriate will vary? The size of the system determines the cooling capacity, which is stated in British Thermal Units (BTU). If a system is too small for your space, it will have trouble cooling your home, which may result in higher energy costs. Systems with larger BTU have a greater cooling capacity. An air conditioning specialist can help you choose a system that is the proper size for your space and cooling needs.

SEER

The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio determines how much energy is used to power your air conditioning system. This factor is essential in determining the energy efficiency of a system. The higher the ratio, the more energy efficient the system is considered, and therefore the less energy that is used to operate. In 2006, laws were mandated to require all newly manufactured AC systems to have a SEER of 13 or greater1. It is important to understand that preserving energy equates to reduced utility bills for you, so consider a system with a high SEER.

In addition to the above considerations, you may also pay attention to the type of filter that your system requires (Is it washable? Disposable?), the refrigerant that it uses, as well as the level of noise that it produces while in operation. These many factors combined, add to the overall comfort you will experience with your system. Mason Mechanical is a Trane Comfort Specialist, meaning that we go above and beyond in our industry to provide great service and high quality products.

Are the season’s extremely high pollen levels causing you severe discomfort? Unfortunately, researchers say that spring 2012 could be the worst season ever for allergies1. While you can’t control the environment outside, there are some things you can do to find relief from your symptoms indoors. A few weeks ago we did a story on our indoor air quality services, including the implementation of a whole home air purifier. Simply installed by your Ahwatukee air conditioning company, these systems are ideal for removing airborne allergens and other irritants from the air, to provide your family with only clean air. If you aren’t familiar with the equipment, it can be overwhelming when shopping around for a system. Fortunately, testing standards and rating systems have been developed to help evaluate the efficiency for easy comparison shopping.

There are two common methods of evaluating the efficiency of air purifiers and their filters. One such method, the Minimum Efficiency Rating Value (MERV), measures the efficiency with which a purifier’s filter removes air particles on a scale of 1-16. The greater the MERV the more efficient the filter is. Other systems, including Trane air cleaners, use the Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) which was developed by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) to not only determine a purifier’s efficiency in capturing airborne particles, but also the rate at which is delivers clean air back into the room2. The system is given three ratings, one for the purifier’s removal of pollen, dust, and tobacco smoke which are combined for a grand total with a maximum CADR of 1,3002. Contacting a Peoria indoor air quality specialist is a good idea for evaluating your options.

The Trane CleanEffectsTM air purification system delivers a CADR of 1,200 which is significantly greater than that of the typical portable device (CADR 10)3. If you suffer from asthma or severe allergies, this system is ideal for removing air particles ranging from pollen and dust to viruses and bacteria which can irritate systems. If you are interested in learning more about our indoor air quality services and product offering, please call Mason Mechanical in Phoenix today to speak with a specialist.

Arizona is no stranger to warm temperatures, and with the recent arrival of spring, the summer heat is just around the corner. Unfortunately, this also means an increase in cooling costs as your Peoria air conditioning system is kicked into overdrive. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, 45% of monthly electricity expenses come from heating and cooling1. With the average household spending nearly $2,200 each year on energy bills2, this can be a hefty expense. Did you know that there are technologies allowing you to tap into Earth’s renewable energies to heat and cool your home for less?

Better known as a geothermal heat pump, this system uses an underground loop of pipes to transfer heated (or cooled) air to the heat exchanger, where it is pumped into the home and circulated through the air ducts. This system works because the air below the ground remains at a near constant temperature of 54 degrees3, making it easy to heat or cool to the desired temperature set on your thermostat. There are various types of geothermal systems, such as the open loop, pond loop, horizontal loop, and vertical loop. An HVAC specialist can help you determine which system is the best fit for your space.

Sound too expensive? While Phoenix geothermal systems cost more upfront, they can significantly reduce your monthly electricity bills allowing you to get a return on your investment within a few short years. This is because they require much less energy to operate and when you save energy, you also save money. Geothermal installations may also entitle you to rebates from the manufacturer and your electricity/gas company, as well as a tax incentive. Take advantage now, before the summer heat arrives! Call Mason Mechanical today to inquire about the Trane EarthWise™ Geothermal System and our installation procedures.

The Environmental Protection Agency reports that there are more than 30 million pollutant and dust particles in each cubic feet of air1. Unfortunately, this unusually warm winter we are experiencing has allowed for tree pollination to begin earlier thus resulting in allergy symptoms for many across the Phoenix Valley. Pharmaceuticals may relieve your symptoms, but your Glendale HVAC company can provide you with an even better solution to help you completely remove the allergens from the air in your home. Mason Mechanical offers indoor air quality services to help you find the relief you deserve from your home.

When you open windows or doors, air from outside rushed in. While the insulation in your home helps to keep outside air out of your home, it also traps polluted air inside, which is then recirculated and breathed by your family. A heating and cooling technician can come to your Peoria home and help you determine the best course of action for improving your indoor air quality. This may include the installation of a whole home air cleaner or air purifier.

These systems work by receiving airflow from the home, filtering out pollutants and allergens, and recirculating clean air back into the home. If you are struggling with allergies, don’t just mask the problem with medication. Go straight to the source and remove the allergens that are causing the problems! Call Mason Mechanical Heating and Coolingtoday to learn how you can find relief from our indoor air quality services.

With spring just around the corner, it won’t be long before your Phoenix air conditioning units are put into overdrive. While you may not currently be using your AC units due to mild winter temperatures, now is an ideal time to call Mesa Mechanical and schedule preseason maintenance on your air conditioning system. This maintenance is a great way to prevent problems in the future, when the proper functionality of your system is a necessity. After all, having problems with your unit in the middle of summer is not only inconvenient, but AC repair can be rather costly. Before you have a problem, take the opportunity to get a tune up on your Phoenix heating and cooling unit.

When one of our certified technicians arrives at your home or place of business, your unit will be properly inspected and tested for any operational issues to ensure your Scottsdale air conditioning system will function optimally throughout the upcoming season. Outdoor units will be cleaned to clear away dirt and debris that may have accumulated on the components and inspected for any damage. The electrical control unit will also be checked to ensure that it is functioning properly.

In addition, the technician will evaluate the AC unit’s performance while it is operating, based on the manufacturer’s specifications. The technician will check for abnormal noises, proper vent functionality, pressure and temperature levels, airflow, and make any necessary recommendations to ensure that your system functions optimally. Call Mason Mechanical in Mesa today to make an appointment and be prepared to enjoy the warm temperatures!

It’s hard to believe that hail can have an effect on your A/C equipment but it can. Damage can range from dented coils needing combing to coils needing to be replaced. Depending upon the age of your system possibly even system replacement. Dented coils prevent your systems from operating normally and can have a long term effect on the internal components. So if you had hail during the storm in October take a look at your outside component, hail damage can be seen visually. Or better yet, call Mason Mechanical for your annual Spring Check and we’ll check for hail damage at the same time. We can work with your insurance company if you do have hail damage.
